In a pre-taped performance from last night, Florida Georgia Line and the Chainsmokers sang their collaborative song on the rooftop of the newly-opened FGL House in downtown Nashville as part of the 2017 CMT Awards.

Beginning with heavily processed layers of vocal harmony, the song – a dense, atmospheric electronic track that closes the Chainsmokers’ 2017 album Memories. . .Do Not Open – alternated between weightless verse sections and massive walls of drums and synthesizer as the choruses hit. In true dance music fashion, the CMT Awards performance closed with a slow build and climactic release of tension, complete with fireworks streaking across the sky.

Florida Georgia Line entered the evening with three nominations, and claimed the Duo Video of the Year for “H.O.L.Y.”

This wasn’t FGL’s first time collaborating with a massive pop act in 2017. At the ACM Awards in April, Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley enjoyed one of the night’s most talked-about performances, singing with Nineties boy band the Backstreet Boys on their collaborative single “God, Your Mama and Me” (from FGL’s 2016 album Dig Your Roots) and BSB’s “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back).” More recently, FGL joined John Legend at the Billboard Music Awards to sing “H.O.L.Y.” and “Surefire.”
