Last week’s chart-toppers — Miranda Lambert’s The Weight of These Wings and Florida Georgia Line’s “May We All,” featuring Tim McGraw — are once again Billboard’s reigning country album and airplay song.
Garth Brooks’ Gunslinger pops in at No. 4 as the week’s highest debuting album, on Nielsen Soundscan-confirmed sales of 18,948 copies.
Luke Bryan claims the highest-debuting song with “Fast,” which makes its bow at No. 40.
The most noticeable feature on the Top 50 albums chart is that it’s currently adorned with 13 Christmas-themed titles. So if you don’t have a new country holiday CD or download by now, you just ain’t trying.
Apart from Brooks’ Gunslinger, there are three other first-timers making the albums chart — Gillian Welch’s Boots No. 1: The Official Revival Bootleg (No. 30), Alan Jackson’s Precious Memories: Collection (No. 37) and the multi-artist package Silent Night: A Country Christmas (No. 46).
Returning to battle are Dan + Shay’s Obsessed (No. 47), John Prine’s For Better or Worse (No. 49) and Cody Jinks I’m Not the Devil (No. 50).
On the songs rankings, Hunter Hayes’ “Yesterday’s Song” re-enters at No. 52.
The No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 albums, in that order, are Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood’s Christmas Together, Brooks & Yearwood’s Christmas Together/Gunslinger and Brett Eldredge’s Glow.
Rounding out the Top 5 songs are Old Dominion’s “Song for Another Time,”Brett Eldredge’s “Wanna Be That Song,” Brett Young’s “Sleep Without You” and Keith Urban’s “Blue Ain’t Your Color.”
Oh, you’re worried about a chart story that doesn’t mention Chris Stapleton’s Traveller? Let me ease your stress. By some cosmic disturbance, that album has slipped to No. 6, the first time it’s been out of the Top 5 list in ages.
Stapleton can console himself for this loss of place, however, by reflecting that Traveller has so far sold 1,690,410 copies — or about two each for every person in Nashville. Adieu, honk-tonks … hello, Williamson County.
